On Making and Becoming
This is where I begin!
Hi,
As daunting as it may feel, writing my first blog feels a bit like standing at the checkout counter, finally buying the running shoes you’ve been thinking about for a long time. You’ve tried to imagine how they’ll fit into your life for the foreseeable future, and you say yes with a quiet confidence: yes, I’m going to commit to this.
To briefly introduce myself: my name is Natasha Jozi. I was born in Pakistan and, after moving many times, I am now based in Germany—which I’ve come to call my home, more or less.
I am an artist, deeply passionate about creating and making. Becoming a mother has been, without question, one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. I love to talk, share ideas, and I feel I have something to say about art, life, motherhood, and the experience of being an immigrant living away from family while figuring life out along the way.
Why On Making & Becoming
I spent most of my twenties building a career in the contemporary art world—traveling across countries, working with other artists, and creating a curatorial platform in Pakistan. Now, having gathered experience across my professional, creative, and personal life—including marriage, motherhood, and working as both an artist and curator—I feel ready to begin writing about it all.
These experiences may seem like separate threads, but to me, they are deeply connected.
Life doesn’t move in straight lines; it flows. And it is up to us to meet it as it ebbs and shifts.
What you will find here
This space will hold reflections on motherhood, where I’ll share my journey so far and continue to explore how I navigate raising a child as a millennial mother. I am learning about gentle and kind parenting along the way. Becoming a mother has also brought many of my own childhood experiences and patterns to the surface, and as I work through them, I try to remain mindful not to pass on generational trauma, while learning to understand my triggers and respond with care and awareness.
It will be raw, honest, and reflective—but always shared with intention.
I moved to Germany five years ago, and having relocated in my thirties, I have experienced many of the challenges of immigration: language barriers, bureaucracy, and unfamiliar social expectations. It has been a whirlwind of a journey so far, and I will share my experiences of navigating and integrating into a new country in a grounded and meaningful way. I will also share practical insights and tips I’ve gathered along the way.
Alongside this, I will write about my art practice—about making art, re-establishing oneself within a new artistic community, and learning how to connect and build networks. I will share parts of my artistic journey, including exhibitions, residencies, curatorial projects, and the ways I continue to navigate this path with intention.
So, welcome—and hello again.
That’s all for now. I’ll see you soon.
I also offer online art consultations for artists and creatives through After the Idea—a space for slowing down, clarifying ideas, and working through the questions that shape artistic practice. You can find more information on my website: www.natashajozi.com
